Exploring the Effectiveness of Brief Mindfulness Practices
Another study supports the benefit of very brief mindfulness practices embedded in existing patient care activities. Very brief practices may overcome patient reluctance to commit to more time-consuming interventions which also require additional visits to a clinic setting. Embedding these practices in familiar care-routines may also overcome stereotypes about “meditation” and unfamiliarity with complementary treatments which may elicit resistance to engagement. The studies findings show that there are positive measurable effects of very brief interventions. Studies such as this one provide fertile grounds for envisioning how they might be leveraged in an on-going program of mindful support. Imagine if, instead of a time-limited intervention suitable for a study, provision of very brief Mindfulness Based Interventions were embedded into an array of routines on an on-going basis.

Experienced Meditators who have taken MBSR Outperform Non-Meditators on Cognitive Tests
Experienced meditators who have completed Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) display increased reaction time and heightened EEG signals associated with mindfulness meditation in neurophysiological tests of attention, accuracy and reaction time.
Pause4-Providers: Brief Online Drop-in Sessions Benefited Health Care Workers During Covid Pandemic
A brief Mindfulness Based Intervention (MBI) was acceptable and helpful for Healthcare workers during the Covid pandemic. This qualitative study published in 2024 looked at the acceptability and benefits of a half hour on-line drop-in model implemented in Toronto during the first wave of the Covid Pandemic. Generally research results are limited to the effects of an intervention at completion and at three or six months post-intervention, but many researchers suggest that long term supportive followup might be required to assure continuity and longevity of the benefits. A model like this might be an element of a comprehensive post intervention support for healthcare workers following an initial introductory MBI.
Mindfulness Based Interventions Produce Positive Mental Health Outcomes in Cancer Patients
First large-scale study of the positive mental health outcomes of Mindfulness Based Interventions for cancer patients and survivors: 2024 Review and Metanalysis published in 2024. Prior studies have focused on amelioration of emotional distress and symptoms. This study identifies eight domains of positive responses and finds all showing improvement and three: Positive Affect, Spirituality, and Post-traumatic growth maintaining statistical significance long-term.
Minimalist Intervention Supports Mindfulness For Stressed Nurses
A minimalist intervention for Hospital Nurses which consisted of listening to a ten minute meditation daily for four weeks showed measurable benefits in Perceived Stress and Self-Compassion. I have a special interest in simple low-cost interventions, having been a part of new program developments in nursing services during my career. Although the impact of this intervention was small, the intervention required little investment in time or expertise and could be implemented at low cost. If used as a part of a more comprehensive program this may provide a model for an expanded and more effective intervention.
Elementary School Teachers Lead Students in Classroom Meditation
This is a workplace wellness study has a unique design. The subjects were elementary school teachers who were instructed in focused attention on the breath and who subsequently led their students in daily meditation as well as meditating at home.
2024 Review Finds MBSR Enhances Coping and Improves Emotions in Breast Cancer Patients
Studies continue to support the use of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) for breast cancer patients. I am always interested in the variations of Mindfulness Based Interventions (MBIs) in research. In this review I found three surprising errors in the descriptions of variations on MBSR in the tabular presentation of the details of the RCTs included in this review (I presume this occurred in translation into English). I retrieved the three RCTs referenced and I clarify the errors in this blog. Otherwise, a great study!
Nurse Managers Benefit from Mindfulness Training Combined with Authentic Leadership Skills Training
June 2024 study demonstrates theoretical similarities between Authentic Leadership and Mindfulness. This study provides a replicable program to enhance the management skills of head nurses and stresses their importance as the link between nursing administration and staff and the source of tomorrow’s nurse leaders.
Systematic review finds MBIs benefit Cancer Patients Coping and Self-Efficacy
A mixed Quantitative and Qualitative review supports the benefits of Mindfulness Based Interventions for people with many types of cancer throughout the course of the illness and brings the subjects actual experience of MBIs into the formal research discussion.
